Purple Pond Petals
Artist
Laurel Adams
Medium
Painting - Colour Pencil
Description
This original colour pencil rendering of a young Lotus blossom was inspired by a friend’s vacation photograph while visiting a park in Rhode Island. Do you know the difference between a Lotus flower and a Water Lilly? Both of these translucent, waxy petaled, pond beauties share similar traits ...except one! Water Lillies and their pads float on the water’s surface while the Lotus Flower and its Pads EMERGE atop tubular stems. I couldn’t resist...I asked if I could use the reference photograph. Thank you thank you, Maggie for being so gracious.
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.
