Description
This original colour pencil drawing was done tonite in Prismacolor Pencils for entry into Lori Moon’s Traditional Media Farm Animals Contest. Since moving to Kentucky, I have befriended Jenny Epperson, who for several years raised chickens and sold her eggs locally. While she did not raise Silver Spangled chickens, I began to research chicken types because her eggs were of BEAUTIFUL mixed colour and I did some research. . I once was commissioned to draw a Spangled Chicken watercolour painting for an employee of my best friend’s husband for a wedding gift. And so...my fascination with this wonderfully feathered chicken! Sadly, I do not have a digital or photographic copy of the painting which was painted prior to my 2013 technology exposure to an iPad. And so, I developed and submitted three variations of this drawing ...b/w, selective Colour and final painting. You chose which you like best; however, only THIS FINAL COLOURIZED ORIGINAL remains for original sale.. Enjoy this composite pose derived from a mixture of several reference photos. The beauty of the Silver Spangles to me is that they are like fingerprints...no two seem to have exactly the same plumage markings. And so, my mixed dots and waves of feather are pretty much my own development beyond trying to stay true to the physical silhouette of this magnificent farm animal.
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.
