FACE MASK ART: https://pixels.com/profiles/laurel-adams/shop/face+masks
This Colour Pencil drawing was inspired by my California friend’s generosity. When she found out I was interested in a grape study, she meandered about the vineyard where she was attending an event over the last weekend. Of the several captures she forwarded, the linear fall of Chardonnay orbs caught my attention and this is my resultant detail of her labor of friendship. Her kindness inspired my REAL TIME (for me) CONTEST called THE HUMBLE GRAPE and I posted the first humble beginnings as CONTEST LOGO with the promise that I would upload and enter the completed painting. There has been a post of its intermediate development and, now, the final Artpiece; thus the title of this painting. My early artistic interests were primarily graphite and INKwork and that entire body of work was destroyed many years ago...as was my second body of oil, acrylic, soft pastel and ink. After a significant hiatus, I explored the one medium in which I was not formally trained ( as it was once considered a lesser medium)...watercolour. During the twelve year immersion into that medium I have gained a measure of comfortability and so, in the last five years I have reexplored Acrylics. Due to health reasons last year, resin based paints and mediums have been set aside and, with both kind guidance and skillful tips from one of FAA’s CP Masters, Sarah Batalka, I have personally committed to a DAILY exploration of wax based Prismacolor Pencils in 2019. (THANK YOU, SARAH!) I believe I am finally achieving some successful , albeit diminutive, artpieces with this new-to-me Media. While it is reminiscent of oil pastels of old, the encased pencils and levels of creamy consistency are a decadent and time suspending activity for me. I go from mid day meditation to colour pencil paper! I am submitting this to Ben Graf’s new “ MEDIA CHALLENGE CONTEST “ whose criteria calls for “unfamiliar media” beyond one’s comfort zone because I am still on the ultimate quest for perfecting Light capture with this new-to-me medium. The blending process of “burnishing” is much more difficult in pencilwork than in my familiar, fluid media...at least is still is for me. I hope you enjoy my latest study HOT OFF THE COLOUR PENCIL PAPER PAD...FINISHED TODAY, 9/5/19. ENJOY!
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.

Laurel, Your series of fruit makes me think of this: "Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” -Luke 6:38 Congratulations on receiving 3rd Place Tie in July 2020 SHCF. Fellow & Admin, GJ glorijean
