Description
This mixed media, digital fusion of my acrylic hand painted accents of butterfly exotica emerging from a portal of my original Colour pencil painting,”Rambling On” is made possible within a digital Light pen vortex. The backstory is always fraught with multiple layers of meaning in Laurelland…
On my birthday a few days ago, I received Many special gifts, among them a wooden sculpture from Mary’s husband and wood craftsman-carver, Joe. Like my pépère (who was both a master carpenter and master machinist), Joe never wastes any castoffs but turns them into Magical sculpted carvings. I rarely pass his workbench without a talisman and, on my birthday he gifted me with this amazing metal and wood specimen mounted in my fav white oak oval “frame” resting on an oval black walnut base. (I LOVE that combination and he has made me gorgeous inlays of various creations). This butterfly, however, was SCREAMING for a delicate, painted specimen look. I found its expression in a specimen book with Colour plates and her name is Erasmia Pulchella, a spirit beauty from Assam, India, a descendant of Zyaenids to which Burnets and Foresters also belong. As a caterpillar, this butterfly feeds on wild coffee. What a perfect specimen to find her home on the huge window ledge where Mary and I share our cuppa black Assam tea, sometimes with friends who enjoy a cup of coffee!
She also is representative of another gift from one of my FAA friends and Our Artist BUZzz member moderator of Digital thread #4., Michele Avanti, who read my natal chart on my birthday, unpackaging my gift in this exquisite way: “This is your natal chart, the position of the planets and here is …your first breath upon this earth…as recorded in the sky”… It is a privilege to be told one’s “story of starstuff” from the portal snapshot within the sacred geometry of “the moment”, to be validated with one’s deepest essence at THAT moment of nakedness that continues to BE throughout the light and darkness of …life. The butterfly holds many significances and this is a special thank you to two special people in my life crown. Thank you, Mary and Michele!!

What a wonderful image you have created, Laurel! The description is incredible. The sermon I gave on Easter Sunday was titled Chrysalis - Seeing the Light when we fear all is darkness. How fascinating that we have both been focused on this transformational being we call butterfly.
