Description
This original Colour and Watercolour pencil rendering was commissioned for the
SOON-TO-BE RELEASED 2020 second book in a Trilogy entitled “ AFTER the last breath”
by Ms. Tish O’Rea. ...MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW...
In her first book, “Elephants at Thanksgiving” (which I was privileged to cover illustrate as well),
Ms. O’Rea’s character, Lea draws the reader into her family web of dysfunction, with humor, with courage, with bold rawness and simmering detail into life consequences THRU and beyond the secrets and shame of sexual abuse and molestation. Well before the ME-too movement, the first book opened doors for Ms. O’Rea’s public outreach to give voice to “the voiceless”.
...From my insider glimpse of the Second book, Lea’s transformative journey steps from the bloodied ashes of “The elephant in the room” into an exciting web of intrigue, desire and dangerous process to Personal Healing....yes, there is MORE TO FOLLOW...
And yes, COVID hit…the new release date is hoped for this year, 2022.
…and with the author’s MS diagnosis, the release date is hoped for 2023-4.

Thank you, Hazel. The author is hoping to release it this year. COVID and other complications postponed her finish.

Laurel, this amazingly powerful painting impacted me in a very powerful way because I too by God's amazing grace have recovered from sexual abuse! Shame has been replaced with His joy! L/F

What a powerful work of art! Love the juxtaposition of the elephant and the butterfly fairy figure, which makes more sense with your backstory description. What a creative and conscious force you are in the artworld, Laurel!

Dear AnnaJo, you found the risqué piece. Yes, in this book, her work emerges from and transcends beyond…the elephant in the room. Thank you for your kindness.

Having just heard about Bill Cosby's release yesterday...this subject seems especially pertinent. This is a fabulous strong drawing. Congratulations on your commission. f/l

Looking at this again and I realize it’s an emergency like a butterfly reminds me of the poem and the butterfly I did but inspired in a totally different way!
