Description
This original, surrealist colour pencil rendering Flows to Colour the “wounds of Light” (nod to R.W. Emerson) thru the Enlightened lens of Simone Weil, arguably one of the most consciously aware teachers, seekers, philosophers and social activists of the 20th century. Born of agnostic parents in World War torn Europe, Simone could not endure the life of privilege when her countrymen were barely existing on meager rations and she left both privilege and career to be of service in The French Resistance. I am a life student of the Mystics, Philosophers-Artists-Scientists . This expressive Artistic FLOW, gives me an odd measure of spiritual comfort amidst the heightened anxiety of Humanity’s palpable, temporal fragment of “malheur”, within the current GLOBAL....pause.... What follows are choice excerpts of Simone’s awarenesses: “Joy and suffering are two equally precious gifts...Through joy, the beauty of the world penetrates our soul. Through suffering it penetrates our body.” She speaks at great length of the relational necessity between physical sensibility, a sense of beauty and personal substantive attunement to the universe as “vibration of the word of God”. She seeks to touch...the ineffable... thru the language of metaphor interwoven with parabolic imagery from The ancient text... She ponders infinity...the timeless journey of Divine Love expressed and our collective journey in Its reflection back; she recalls the planted seed, the most beautiful of all trees, “more frightful than a gibbet”; she speaks of the hammer and nail/the strike and shock waves; she sets the stage for my painting. “Extreme affliction, which means physical pain, distress of the soul, and social degradation, all at the same time, is a nail whose point is applied at the very center of the soul, whose head is all necessity spreading throughout space and time. Affliction is a marvel of divine technique....The man to whom such a thing happens has no part in the operation. He struggles like a butterfly pinned alive into an album. But through all the horror he can continue to want to love. There is nothing impossible in that, no obstacle, one might almost say no difficulty. For the greatest suffering, so long as it does not cause the soul to faint, does not touch the acquiescent part of the soul, consenting to a right direction. It is only necessary to know that love is a direction and not a state of the soul....In this marvelous dimension, the soul, without leaving the place and instant where the body to which it is united is situated, can cross the totality of space and time and come into the very presence of ...the arms of the Cross.” If you (like I) enjoy a Deep metaphor for ...deep pauses....in deep times....check out the Letters of Simone Weil translated by several (with commentary).
NOTE: Within the controversial distinction of CP “drawing” or “painting” lies artist definition. My definition: when the surface is ENTIRELY burnished, I classify as a Painting; when any exposed Paper Is part of the composition or background, I classify as a drawing. I render both.

Beautiful work, and a wonderful link between your own "flow" and that of Weil. I look forward to voting for it in the What's the Buzzz - Emotionalism contest. L/F
