Description
This is an original sculpture-collage collaboration between my best friend’s carpenter husband, Joe, and myself in commemoration of a VERY symbolic, eclectic-element composition for a FAA Friend’s soon-to-be SPECIAL LANDMARK BIRTHDAY! I recently sent this domed sculpture early as a pre-birthday, “just because” surprise! Firstly, I purchased the 7” dome with base, and lapis, then went treasure hunting in Joe’s workshop. My original vision (as he was just about to begin a labor intensive sculpting of driftwood sections) changed, when…I saw it…dangling in my line of vision! He had fashioned three metal chrysanthemums Years ago which had to be machine blown clean of sawdust. Out with the driftwood …and in with the inverted chrysanthemum…a perfect interactive holding place and design element for the lapis stone! Next I twisted the stem not only to secure the stone but become a holder for the first of three delicate butterflies. The remaining two perched on my hand painted gilt walking stick branch. He glued my choice (from at least six jars of different sized river grit) onto the pedestal base onto which I carefully mounted Swarovski stick-ons for Magic on the stone bed and on select branch tips. Months prior, I had asked the birthday girl what she would like for her big September day and she said: “oh, you know me”. Well, not sufficiently for a SPECIAL LANDMARK, I DIDN’T!! With still no clues to default to, I was left to my own devices, a handful of telephone chats about our mutual aesthetics and… her portfolio. So: eclectic, Nature loving, stark landscaped, elemental, stone, wood and butterflies were the portfolio clues. Our chats suggested beautiful things, easy care, compact, favorite flower mums and Colour Blue. Lastly, I wanted to add some of my own personality: Magic, bling and delicacy. This is the result. Happy September BIRTHday, D. This just might factor in to another Edit contest…like, in September??wink, wink! …:-) so glad you liked it.
